Q. How do I successfully install an Upload Scanner for RemoteAccess?
A. Well, this is basically an easy task, look into the upload scanner that
you decide to use, and it should give you a parameter line to put in
the blank, to make it work. Here is my example, using THDPRO Scanner.

The way this is setup, when a user hits "V"iew Archive while filelisting
files in an area, it will shell run the program, view/read the archive,
and continue from there, once its done with the archive, it will swap
back to the bbs.
Now, to run Online Archive Master as a door (I use it as my "V"iew Files off
of the Files Menu, it's easy to get around), it's setup like this:
Menu Type: 7
Opt. Data: *C /c c:\ra\arcmast2.bat
The batch file reads:
@Echo Off
cd\ra\view
AM_60 /P:C:\RA
cd\ra
And this is how the program looks:

Make note that the -S100 is the sysop security parameter for Gedit.
This is highly recommended, so that users cannot import/export files
off of your Hard Drive, like the RA.LOG if they know where it is.
This can easily be changed to -S64000 or -S1000 whatever, all
depending what your sysop security is.
** TChat **
Q. How do I run TCHAT as my external chat program with RemoteAccess?
{+} Registered Feature only.
A. Here are the setup strings for the Setup.

** INSTAGAME **
Q. Okay, I have Online INSTAbank running great, and noticed this new
lottery program for Online INSTAbank, how do I set it up?
A. Here are the correct ways of setting it up:
First, you MUST place ALL of the INSTAgames' files into the directory
which contains the Online INSTAbank files. Then you can configure
the prices for the tickets, etc.. by running IGAME10 /C this will
then prompt you for information on the tickets (time/bytes/etc).
My batch file to run this is:
@Echo Off
c:
cd\ra
copy dorinfo1.def c:\ra\bank
cd\ra\bank
igame10.exe
cd\ra
exit
And make sure that each night during your system's maintenance that
you goto the INSTAgames directory and run IGAME10 /P to process the
winning/losing tickets.
This should be everything for setup with INSTAgames.
** RAInfo **
Q. I need a Statistics Generator that will work with RemoteAccess 2.x
I have found RAInfo and don't understand how to set it up...

Each night this is what I run during my maintenance:
cd\ra\rai
rainfo.exe
This is it, just simply run the program, if you DELETE your RA.LOG
file, you need to run this program BEFORE you delete the file, it
checks the log to make the stats, I believe thats how it goes, that
and/or the user databases.... Either way, just run this before you
delete your log.
It comes out with a screen like this (this is just one of the many):

** FileStat **
Q. On a different BBS Software, I've seen when you want to browse
through their file areas, it gives the filearea name, the total
number of files, and the total size of the filearea.. How would
I get something to do that .. and use it for a filearea statistic?
A. Get a file called FILESTAT by Bill Dykstra, and it will generate
a listing like this.. It is VERY easy to setup. This is what to
do:
Once you unzip/unarj/etc the archive place filestat.* into your
RemoteAccess directory (or wherever), once you do that, type in
FILESTAT /C this will bring you into it's little configuration
setup, the only question it asks you is where the CONFIG.RA is
location at, simply insert the path there without the filename,
and then the next step is: simply run the program nightly to
maintain a correct filearea listing or statistics. Simply run,
FILESTAT each night, when you are done it will produce a file
called FILESTAT.A?? into your textfiles directory, and it looks
like this:

I listed all of the areas in Group 2: RemoteAccess Utilities
all other groups were edited out in here, this is just to show
what it basically looks like, and what kind of RA areas I had :)
The color version (ANSI) is great looking as well!
now each night in your maintenance you should run FILESTAT.EXE once, and then
after that you should do this:
C:
cd\ra
filestat.exe
D:
cd\ra\english\txtfiles
del filearea.*
copy filestat.ans filearea.ans
copy filestat.asc filearea.asc
C:
This should work properly, remember that the FILEAREA.A?? file replaces
the hard coded listing that is built into RemoteAccess.
** IceChat **
Q. People have been talking about ICECHAT, it looks too complicated
to set up and I don't want to spend a few hours to configure it
properly, how do I set it up? (As a door) {+}
A. It pretty much configures itself, I also thought it would be too
complexed to setup, but .. I had some spare time to mess around
with it, and what do you know? IT READS YOUR CONFIG.RA and it
automatically setups you up! The paths, pages per day, etc., were
all setup for me! I loved it, and now, I use it whenever I chat with
users.. Plus, it uses horizontal and vertical chat modes, and also
can use your SoundBlaster card (if you have one) to play MODs as
a paging tune (more information on this is in the ICECHAT.DOC).
Here are how the chat views look like (I screen captured them from
ANSI to ASCII)

** DOORWAY **
Q. I want to be able to run the RACONFIG, RAMGR, FDSETUP, and other
config programs remotely, but I don't know how...
A. By using a program called Doorway, you can redirect the input/output
of any text based program to the remote user running it as a door.
The remote user can even use his cursor keys, Function keys, Alt-Fx
keys, and control keys remotely as well, as long as their terminal
program offers doorway support. (Most terminals use the Alt= key to
toggle this doorway mode on or off, FrontDoor uses the ScrollLock Key)
Here is an example menu and batch file to run those programs remotely
using Doorway:

** Here is a brief explanation of what this batch file does **
* First the co-sysops first and last name is placed in a sysop.log file,
along with the function number they selected.
* Next a description of what the user is doing in a door is written into
a semephore file called %DOOR%, which has been set to the path\filename
of USERDOES.[node] file located in the RA semephore directory. Such as:
SET DOOR=C:\RA\SEM\USERDOES.1 (For node 1 in this example.)
If you do not run multiple nodes or if you don't allow your users to see
what doors other users are in then you don't need any %DOOR% stuff. :-)
* Then Doorway is run in SYSF mode, which means door.SYS and Fossil mode.
^^^^ ^^^ ^
This is the perfect mode to run Doorway in, as it causes the DOOR.SYS
file to be read, to find out the com port number, users graphics mode,
and other information there, and then the fossil driver is used for all
communications, which guarantees that it will always work in the future
even if you add non-standard com ports to your fossil driver someday.
Doorway reads the DOOR.SYS from the current directory, unless you tell
it otherwise by using the optional /S: switch.
Doorway is told to use direct video mode by using the /V:D^U switch.
Doorway is told to skip the opening screen by using the /O:T switch.
Doorway is told to allow the co-sysop up to 300 minutes with /M:300.
Doorway is told what program to run with the /P: switch.
* Finally doorway erases the %DOOR% userdoes.[node] file and returns to RA.
** It may seem a little complicated if you do not know whats going on, but
I've tried it out remotely on my board, and it works like a charm! **
Look for a file called DRWY222.ZIP 229k on most support boards.

There's not really anything special to do in the RACONFIG->OPTIONS->MESSAGES->

simple to do! The configuration program (EDITCFG.EXE) somewhat comes
already setup, all you need to do is just to change the colors, and add some
macros, etc..
** FDRPR **
Q. When people FREQ (File Request) files from my address, I would like
to be able to have RemoteAccess update the download counters for
each file FREQ'ed. Can it be done?
A. Yes, it can be done; however, you need to have FrontDoor shareware
registered or own FrontDoor commercial. (FD 2.11/2.20x)
Here is what to put in the space in the FDSETUP.

** AllFix **
Q. How do I setup AllFix?
A. David Casey at Crossed Wires BBS (1:3660/809) has sent us his
some of the configurations that he uses (screen captured)
and the parameters that he runs in his batch file. Here it is.

Now in my BBS batch file, I have, under the start label, the following:
echo Checking for inbound TIC Files
if exist c:\im\file\*.tic goto ALLFIX
And the ALLFIX label is this:
:ALLFIX
c: ;Changes to the C drive

cd\allfix ;Changes to the allfix directory
allfix file ;Runs Allfix File, which scans for inbounds
allfix scan ;Runs Allfix SCan, which scans for outbounds
allfix mgr ;Scans for changes made from the incoming node
allfix announce ;Announces any newly arrived files
goto START
That's all there is to it, I think the rest of the configuration is
dependant on the system configuration. If you need anymore, just holler.
I am also working on a full blown version which takes the user, step by
step, through the setup. <G>
** RATick **
Q. I would like to setup a TIC processor that is a little easier to
use. I've found RATick and would like to set it up.
A. Here we go, this is what I use and it does it's job and only takes
up 38k.
In the RATick.Cfg file, where it deals with areas, paths, and the RACONFIG,
here is a basic setup.
; the keyword AREA must be UPPERCASE.
; the Name of the file echo area goes next.
; the Number of the file area (in RA) into which this area will be imported.
; the Full Directory name for files in that area.
;
AREA
RAD_BETA
101
D:\RADIST
;
AREA
RAD_DORS
101
D:\RADIST
Notice that the first word is AREA (has got to be it, and in uppercase)
the next line is the name of the file echo.
the 3rd line is the filearea number where you want these files to go.
the 4th line is the path to the filearea (in line 3).
this is REAL easy to use, here's my patch file:
if exist c:\fd\file\*.tic goto RATICK
( I placed the above line in the batch file where my mailer drops to the
errorlevel after it receives mail. )
:RATICK
echo atm0h1 >>Com1
c:
cd\ra\ratick
ratick
echo atm0h0 >>Com1
cd\fd
goto START
Simple, huh?
** LabTest **
Q. Whats the command parameter for setting up LabTest in the RACONFIG?
A. Here she is:
+=========================================================+

| Scan online Yes |
| Failed scan Unlisted |

| |
+=========================================================+
batch file is as follows:
@Echo Off
Cls
Labtest.Exe %1 /O %2 %3
exit
I copied this setup right out of the RA_UTIL echo, so it should work, if
you don't like batch files, give it a try w/o it.
** UpCheck **
Q. Whats the command parameter for setting up UpCheck in the RACONFIG?
A. Here she is:

Someone posted to me in the RA_UTIL echo on how to set it up, and it works.
** JC-QWK **
Q. How do I setup JC-QWK with RemoteAccess?
A. It cant get any easier than this... Here's the Menu Command:
[Taken from JCQWK.DOC]
Installing JC-QWK in RA is very simple. Just make a menu
command entry for the QWK door and define it as a type 7
exit. The optional parameter should be the full path and
name of JCQWK.EXE ending with *M. Swapping should not be
needed for JC-QWK, but will probably be needed by some
archiving programs which needs a lot of memory (ARJ, for
example!)
It will look something like this:
--------------------------------------------------------------
1 2 3 4 5 6
12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345

MaxSec 0 TimeLeft 0 TimeCost 0

The setup program for JC-QWK looks pretty much like FDSETUP. It's easy to
configure, and you should be setup within minutes!
** PostIt **
Q. How do I post textfiles from DOS into my message bases?
A. There is a program called PostIt, which allows you to do this,
for Hudson, JAM, Squish, MSG, and EZYCom message bases.
I use this program in my NEWUSER.Q-A file, what I is the following:
PostIt gets run by a "Exec" statement in the NEWUSER.Q-A file, I post the
new user a message in a given message base, and it will address the user by
his first and last name, and for the body of the message, a file is imported.
This is how I use PostIt:
Exec C:\RA\POSTIT\POSTIT.EXE -MWELCOME.TXT -BH102 -SWelcome to T.C.S.
-FEric Staufer -T*F *L
this is all on one line. Since it's a long parameter, I had to put it under-
neath each other, so I could show you.
Now for what this does:
EXEC tells RA to run a program in a questionnaire. Of course the next thing
in the line is the path and the name of the program I want being run.
After that, is the name of the file I want to be imported into the body of
the message (-Mxxxxx.xxx), next, is which board number I want the message to
be posted in -BH102 (-B is required it represents Board, the H represents the
style of the message board 'in this case HUDSON' and last is the board number
which I use 102), the next is the subject of the message (hence the -S),
after that is who the message is from, in this case it would be from the
sysop (-F), last but not least who the message is to.. If you want to use
PostIt for the way I am, you MUST use the *F *L for who is receiving the
message, the *F will pass the user's first name and the *L will pass the
user's last name. And thats how it's done.

** FRAME **
Q. I've seen some boards have color file headers and gives a list of
info about the given file area.. how's this possible?
A. A program thats out called FRAME can do this. It's really easy to
use and it gives the users on your board info on several things from
the current file area.
A||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Files available : F\\\\\\\\\\ Average Downloads: V\\\\\
Total size : K\\\\\\\\\\ Total Downloads : D\\\\\

whats this you might ask? This is the header file which is used with Frame.
The first thing is the code for the File Area Name, the rest of the pipes
will center the information for you. The rest of the information is given
for you. The docs give you more info on the available info things.
FRAME v2.01 now also supports the ability to make your customized ANSI
statistics screens! Several options to choose from!
There's: Top Caller
Top downloaders in files
Top downloaders in kb
Top uploaders in files
Top uploaders in kb
Top File Areas
Top message writers... and more!
You can exclude the sysop from the listing and also it honors 'hidden' flags.

Miscellaneous system information
And.. here are some options which FRAME allows:
Frame 2.01 ∙ Add-on utility for RemoteAccess ∙
Copyright (C) 1993-1994 Yat Tung Cheung. All rights reserved.
Usage:
FRAME <commands> [switches]
Commands:
Header Maintain the file header and generate file base bulletins.
Stats Generate user base bulletins.
Switiches:
-smart Enable smart mode in generating file header
-removehdr Remove file headers
What I do during my maintence is run it like this:
Frame Header Stats -Smart
The registered version does not have the 10 second delay like the Unreg'd.
And, when you run it during maintence <unregistered> it just countsdown
10 seconds, it DOES NOT ask you to type in like 'Press 'f' to continue'
so it's really a great and handy utility for your BBS!
** IceNote **
Q. I'd like to have a nice configurable note to next caller, whats one
that you suggest?
A. Got IceNote in, and setup in no time at all..
All you have to do is add a command off of your logoff menu, which is a
Type 7, and for the optional data, all you have to do run this:
c:\ra\icenote\icenote.exe /d:c:\ra *m
╘═══> thats the path to the drop files.
for the output file, NEWS.ANS/ASC is already defined which is configurable
in the NOTECFG program.
an output file is as follows:
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
IceNote v0.60 The Concession Stand
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Tempest drunkenly slurs:
duh..hello...
══■10:42a■═════════════════════════════════════════════════════■02-03-1995■═══
Press ENTER to continue: ^KA
colors are all configurable, and you can add your own adverbs and verbs to
make it really interesting. Also, there is a censoring feature and control
codes may be toggled on and off (whether on and off ^KX and ^X are not
allowed). Really good and easy to setup!
** LWMGR **
Q. I need a good remote editor, what do you suggest?
A. Llanoware's LWMGR has it all! Menu, User editors, etc! Plus, All
in ONE! Here's a sample .CTL file to get you started on the fly:

** MC_CBV **
Q. How do I setup Motor City's Call Back Verifier?
A. All I can give you is the command line parameter, not much as i
usually show you, because i dont use the program on my board,
the config file is binary as well... here's the command line:
Menu Type: 7
Opt. Data: C:\RA\CBV\MC_CBV.EXE /N*N *M
** RATS **
Q. How do I setup RATS for my timebank?
A. Well, just like MC_CBV, the config is binary and all i can give you
is the command line for now:
Menu Type: 7
Opt. Data: C:\RA\RATS\RATS.EXE *M
** CallStat **
Q. I need a good replacement for the built-in Today's Caller program,
which also has FrontDoor's Inbound and OutBound stats, whats one?
A. I just switched to CallStat, it's a good today's caller program,
color & text configurable. Also has support for InterMail and FD.
When people hit "T"oday's Callers off of my main menu, they'll see 3 things
before they get brought back the menu. Today's Callers, Inbound, and Out-
bound stats. Unfortunately I have to run a separate menu when they choose
"T" because I want ALL 3 screens shown. I simply made another menu and made
the "T"oday's Caller a Type 3 command to GOSUB the CallStat Menu. In that
menu are the following:
Display HotKey Type Opt Data
*** Display TODAY
*** Display INOUT
*** Return
A Sample Today's Caller file looks like this:

With my BBS's long name, it couldnt quite add the entire thing to the title,
but oh well, it reports it really good.
This is how you run the program, after every incoming mail session I run this:
cd\ra\callstat
callstat /write -all
after every logoff, i run this:
cd\ra\callstat
callstat /write -calls

** QuickCall **
Q. How do you setup QuickCall?
A. QuickCall is a REAL good Today's Caller generator, which you, the
sysop, has the ability to customize your own Today's Caller Screen.
QuickCall has the ability to let the sysop insert control codes to make the
outputted callers file just the way you want it.
You do this by making a TOP.A??, MIDDLE.A??, and BOTTOM.A?? files to let
QuickCall throw together your screen.
For MIDDLE.A??
──────────────
^KA - Caller Number (Today)
^KB - User's Full Name
^KC - User's Location
^KD - Log-on Time
^KE - Log-off Time
^KF - Baud Rate
^KG - User's Handle/Alias
^KH - Total Number of Calls User Has Made
^KI - Node Number
For TOP.A?? and BOTTOM.A??
──────────────────────────
^KJ - BBS Name
^KK - Sysop Name
^KL - Total Number of Calls to the BBS
For BOTTOM.A??
──────────────────────────
^KA - Number of Callers so Far Today.
My one outputted file looks similiar to RA's built in one, because thats the
way I like it :-)

Basically a FrontDoor style configuration program. The main things you have
to configure is to go down to the IMPORT AREA DEFINITIONS. Then go over to
your File Lists Manager and supply upto 8 different filelists you'd wish
ZenList to create. You ALSO have to make sure when you choose the filelist
manager you toggle which areas you want in the
ZenSetup->File List Manager->Areas to List: _
hit Enter and toggle which areas you'd like... then thats the most important
part of the installation of ZenList.
And here's a list of commands you can do with ZenList:
ZENLIST 2.01+; Copyright (C) 1993 Lee Muh Hwa
All Rights Reserved.
Usage: ZENLIST [switches]
Command line switches:
/C<pathname> Full path and name of alternate configuration file
/R Include processing of "On request only" areas
/D Include processing of CD-ROM areas
/L Generate file lists only
/M File database processing only
/S Strip headers from file database
/P Strip CR/LF/Spaces from description in ALL areas
/H This help screen
** GET-DIZ **
Q. How can I import FILE_ID.DIZs and DESC.SDIs into RA 2.0x's FDBs?
Without shelling to DOS and then extracting the FILE_ID.DIZ and
then importing it into the buffer?
A. A program called GET-DIZ will do this for you and it's the best
thing in the world ! Here's the 2 step way how to install it:
